Questions We Hear Most Often from Our Neighbors

What do I do if my card is lost or stolen?

Credit Card:

If your credit card has been lost or stolen, call (800) 449-7728 immediately. For cardholder service, call (866) 820-5865.

Debit Card:

If your debit card has been lost or stolen, call (888) 918-7889 immediately.

What is "Phishing" and how can I stay safe?

Phishing is just a fancy word for scammers pretending to be a business you trust (like a bank or a store) to trick you into giving up your personal info. They use fake emails or odd phone numbers to get your attention.

  • Trust your gut: If you don't know the sender, don't open the email.
  • Stay in control: Never give out info unless you were the one who started the conversation.
  • Check the lock: Only enter info on secure websites (look for the little yellow lock icon at the bottom of your screen).

You can always report these scams to the government to phishing-report@us-cert.gov.

How can I improve my credit score and start saving on interest?

Your credit score is a big deal because it touches everything from your loan rates to your insurance premiums. The good news is, you don’t have to figure it out alone. We can sit down with you, look over your report, and help you understand the factors that are nudging your score up or down. By making a few steady changes, we can help you lower your rates, and lower rates mean more money staying in your pocket. Come see us at any of our offices and let’s take a look at it together!

What are CECU Visa Alerts and how do they work?

We want you to feel secure every time you swipe your card. Our free Alerts from CECU (powered by Visa) send an email to your inbox almost the second your card is used. You can customize these however you like. For example, you might only want an alert for online purchases or anything over $50. If someone else tries to use your card, you’ll know within minutes so we can get it resolved. You can sign up for free at Visa.com/purchasealerts.

How do I know if a message or call is actually from CECU?

Here’s the bottom line: We will never call, text, or email you asking for your social security number, card info, or passwords. We already have the info we need on file to help you. If you get an "urgent" message or a random phone call claiming your account is blocked and asking for your details, that’s a red flag.

If you need to activate a new card, only use these trusted numbers:

  • Visa Credit Card Activation: 800-527-7728
  • Visa Debit Card Activation: 866-985-2273

Alternatively, you can give our Accounting Department a call directly or reach out through our contact page.

How can I spot check fraud before it’s too late?

A check is only as good as the person who gives it to you. If you get a check in the mail for a "prize" you didn't enter, or if someone asks you to deposit a check and wire a portion of that money back to them, it is a scam. We do our best to protect our members by putting holds on certain checks, but ultimately, if a check you deposit bounces, the responsibility falls on you to cover that loss. Remember: if a deal sounds too good to be true, it almost always is.

What should I do if I think my identity has been stolen?

If you suspect someone is using your personal information, the most important thing is to act fast by notifying the police and flagging your accounts with a fraud alert. We've put together a detailed blog guide explaining the ins and outs of identity theft, how to avoid it, and how to move forward if you become a victim of identity theft. You can read that blog post on identity theft here.
